Philadelphia, PA / New York City, NY
Barrington, aka @Food.Health.Fit on Instagram, is a Pennsylvania native with incredible talent in photography and cooking, making him a rising star in the health food space. He's passionate about great food and fitness, and pushes the boundaries with his typically dark yet colorfully rich photography.
How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
I started my business to change lives and increase awareness about the benefits of plant-based nutrition and plant-based cooking. I learned information about plant-based nutrition about 3 years ago that changed my life. The crazy part though is nobody knows any of this stuff, and to make things even worse many people think that what makes them the healthiest is the opposite of what really does.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your craft to new heights? What’s your true motivation?
Food & photography. I am a nerd at heart, and I do believe it is information that really drives people to make changes in their lives. I’ll always enjoy reading the latest plant-based research, however, there’s a magic about great food and great photography that makes people’s eyes light up and get excited. Bringing that feeling to people, never gets old. I’m going to keep pushing my culinary skills to convert even the biggest skeptics and pushing my photography skills to capture the magic of plant-based cuisine. My goal is to instigate a change with information and then inspire people with food.
If you could have tea with an idol or figure, who would it be? Why?
Honestly, probably Obama. I feel like there would be a lot to learn from the first black president in America. Not to make things racial, but it was and still is a big deal to be black and hold that kind of office in this country. I’d like to ask him questions about success, and I would also ask him some tough questions about this country.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A collaboration?
I wrote and taught a six-week class on plant-based nutrition and cooking at the largest hospital network in my area, it was the first of its kind.
In regards to your craft, where do you want to be in 5 years?
I want to have published several cookbooks. I want to master the best plant-based dishes of every culture. I want to create food that has never been done before. When someone thinks plant-based nutrition in the area where I live, I want them to think Barrington and Food Health Fit. I’d also love to start a small marketplace for selling the best holistic products.
Define your idea of ‘living with wizdom’ in the modern world. What is timeless about it?
Think independently. It doesn’t matter what the majority is doing if it is not right. Question everything, be willing to try new things. I feel anyone with that sort of mindset will find success.
What’s your favourite flavor of Wize Monkey Coffee Leaf tea? How do you steep or consume it?
I have only had the original! I have the Discovery Pack in my kitchen that I will to dig into! I’ve been very basic with my preparation in consuming it hot after steeping in hot water.
So keeping it simple is best it seems... Where can our audience find out more about you?
