The farm is owned by Wize Monkey’s third partner, Enrique. The leaves are harvested and processed on-site, then shipped directly to Vancouver BC.
Once the tea has arrived in Vancouver, we sort and package it.
Then we ship it directly to you, simple as that!
Located in the dense cloud forest of the Northern-Central mountains of Nicaragua, Finca La Aurora produces some of the country’s best arabica.
These premium arabica plants also have premium leaves, which in turn, create a fantastically sweet and smooth cup. With rich volcanic soil and a perfect microclimate, this is the ultimate location for a coffee farm.
We’re proud to be partnered with an amazing farm that has the highest level of ethics and worker support that we’ve ever seen.
Workers are provided with housing and daily meals. The small village has a cultural center, kitchen, corner store, a church, school, and abundant spring water fountains around the entire farm. Even fair trade farms we inspected were not up to this standard.
By operating with biodynamic standards, the plants are better nourished and produce premium quality leaves for the best possible flavour experience. Some of these methods including intercropping banana, nettle, guava, eucalyptus, and kiri to help the plants fight threats and also enrich the soil with dense biomass.
There are five different families of monkeys on the farm. From early in the morning to late in the evening, you can hear the local monkeys howling from the treetops in the farm. Even in their abundance, it’s not that easy to spot them as they’re usually tucked away within the leaves of the heavy canopy, which shades the coffee plants down below.
This is where the inspiration for the name ‘Wize Monkey’ came from. A Wize Monkey is a clever problem-solver that lives in harmony with their natural environment. Not only do they make good decisions for themselves, but also for the greater good of the constituents around them. This is the essence of being ‘wize’ in our minds.
