Welcome to the 84th volume of WizeWorld: a collection of stories and sounds to round out your week, pique your curiosity, and widen your wizdom.

This week’s theme is healthy breaks.

Sometimes it’s good to take a step back and evaluate how you’re really feeling. Whether you need a break from sugar rushes or breaking news, it’s nice to take a much-needed pause now and then.

We’ll be looking at:

  • What happened when YouTuber Cam Jones gave up sugar
  • An interview with artist Chairman Ting
  • An artist raising money for Ukraine
  • Morning Ritual, a power-packed mix from Steven Gamboa
  • How to limit and manage your news intake

Learn

Men’s Health looks at an experiment from Cam Jones of Goal Guys on YouTube. Cam had a simple yet ambitious goal: to cut out all added sugar for a full 30 days to see what happens. While Cam battled withdrawal symptoms like cravings, headaches, fatigue, and more, his biggest revelation was a more practical one: there is a whole lot of sugar in the foods we eat. Even the ones we consider “healthy”—like power drinks that have as much sugar as a can of soda. But if you want a little sweetness without a major crash, the small amount of real cane sugar we add to Wize can be the perfect balance for anyone looking to cut back on their own consumption.

Connect

In this interview with Chairman (Carson) Ting, the Vancouver street artist and illustrator talks us through how he went from Toronto to Vancouver, working with major brands like Nike, Toyota, Porsche, Microsoft, Snoop Dogg, and more along the way. Ting is most proud of a recent collaboration with the Vancouver White Caps that raised $150,000 for the Vancouver Food Bank and, while he loves working with brands, he also looks forward to doing more personal pieces going forward. And you can find Carson cracking a Wize Mango Iced Tea to keep his energy up as he works.

See

To raise money for Ukraine, Serbian artist Marina Abramović is reviving her famous performance piece “The Artist is Present”. “The Artist is Present” was first shown at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 2010 and its production and debut was the subject of an award-winning 2012 documentary. The work invited anyone to sit opposite the artist and stare into her eyes for as long as they dared. Not unlike the challenge we feel watching global events happening from afar.

Listen

Pair your favorite sunrise with Morning Ritual. By day, Steven Gamboa serves as Wize’s Sales Manager. By night, he curates programming at legendary venue Fortune Sound in Vancouver. This mix gives R&B, afro, and soulection vibes to get you ready for whatever the day has in store. Featuring music from Wizkid, Anderson .Paak, and Kaytranada. Steven particularly recommends cracking a fresh Mango Wize Iced Tea with Gonna Bleach My Eyebrows. Hit play and tackle the day.

Get inspired

Speaking of observing global events, Positive News brings us a primer on how to manage your news intake. While it’s important to stay informed, but how much is too much? Oliver Burkeman, the author of The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking, suggests finding a compromise between constant updates and total blackout. In short, he recommends that we find periods of time to dip into the news, stay up-to-date, and then remove ourselves. It’s one small way to keep yourself a little less stressed during difficult times.
